Teletronics Communications, Inc.

The History of Teletronics and Business Communication Solutions

Teletronics Services was founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1979. We opened our doors September 8, 1980. The original concept was that Teletronics would only be a service company covering the Northeast Ohio area, which at the time, had approximately 200 clients for the company to maintain.

Since then, Teletronics has evolved into an innovative leader in the integration of business phone systems, as well as, voice and data solutions, and VoIP. Teletronics prides itself on its' ability to assess a company’s communication needs and then design and implement a system tailored to meet those needs.

Becoming an Interconnect Company

Starting off with a staff of only seven people, four of which remain and comprise the 'core' of the organization, Teletronics now employs about 40 total emplyees.

In late 1979 Tom Ursem and Gale Kenney acquired the controlling interest in the company and Teletronics became a full-fledged "Interconnect Company." Mr. Ursem had helped to design and develop a fundamental new telephone system for Telrad and thus Telrad was selected as a key product. Teletronics then became one of the first Telrad distributors in the United States.

Fun Fact: The first Telrad system installed in the United States was for Akron Oxygen in early 1980.

Telrad has since become the 'flag ship' product for Teletronics with over 1,700 systems installed in Northern Ohio.

In 1981, Teletronics created a sister-company called North Coast Repair. North Coast Repair served as an in-house electrical board repair company that allowed Teletronics to separate itself from its competition by making the company self-sufficient. With the creation of this new company, Teletronics was able to offer its' clients faster turnaround time on repairs while becoming cost competitive.

Then in 1982, Teletronics acquired a Toledo based interconnect called Telephone Systems. This further expanded their client base to over 2,000 and added an important sales force to the organization. This acquisition further strengthened Teletronics' position in the Ohio marketplace and placed Teletronics as one of the largest interconnect companies.

In 1983, the company moved to a new corporate headquarters on Willow Parkway in Cuyahoga Heights, OH, increasing the size of their operations by more than 14,000 square feet.

The next year, Teletronics went back on the acquisition trail to take on a fairly major interconnect in Cleveland called Sight & Sound Communications, adding over 700 new accounts. With the addition of Sight & Sound Communications, Teletronics became one of the five largest interconnect companies in the state of Ohio.

Also, in 1984 Teletronics was ranked 46th in the United States Top 100 Interconnect Companies by Teleconnect Magazine. Teleconnect Magazine is a trade publication and the recognized leader in the industry.

In 1985, Teletronics was granted a distributorship by Tadiran, a Computerized Branch Exchange (CBX) manufacturer, who offers simultaneous voice and data capability through their product. This world-class product, purchased and installed by the United States Department of Defense, including the Pentagon, allowed Teletronics to re-enter the CBX arena, offering a quality of product to a market sized at one hundred stations or more.

Presently, Teletronics boasts a prestigious list of over fifty satisfied Tadiran accounts, including: Climaco, Lefkowitz, Peca, Wilcox & Garofoli Co., LPA, The News Herald, Nupro, Swagelok Corporation and several large nursing homes, illustrating the wide range of applications of the Tadiran products.

One of INC 500’s Fastest Growing Companies

By the end of 1988 Teletronics was servicing over 3,000 clients in Northeastern Ohio and was recognized by INC 500 Magazine as one of the fastest growing companies of the previous year.

At the beginning of 1989 Teletronics became a distributor for Litel long distance services. This meant that we could offer our clients the optimum communication package utilizing Centrex, Litel, and our product lines from Telrad and Tadiran.

In late 1989 Teletronics acquired another Cleveland, OH based company, Alternative Communications. This acquisition brought our client base to over 4,000 Northern Ohio clients.

Teletronics expanded its' service to include digital data networks, multiplexers, patch panels, channel banks, plain paper fax machines, laser cartridge recharges and authorized service on AT&T Merlin equipment in early 1990.

In 1993, Teletronics was recognized by Telrad as one of the Top 5 Distributors in the United States for over ten consecutive years. Later that year, Teletronics moved its' Corporate Headquarters to its present location at 1200 Valley Belt Road in Cleveland, OH.

Since then, Teletronics has expanded it client base, added many new employees, retired several long-time employees, and added other products and services to meet the many needs of today's technology. We have proudly been named the Top Telrad Distributor for well over ten consecutive years…and plan to continue providing comprehensive solutions for our clients well into our future.
